Animals

I LOVE ANIMALS. My assistant, Karen, always says don’t use caps unless you are yelling, but I am adamant, I love animals.  Some of my favorite pieces were created in dedication to the animals I have known and loved.

Aloha . . . With Love To Tundra and Tequila – I saw a photo of two love birds, Tundra and Tequila.  I knew immediately that I wanted to “glitter” them.  So this piece was created to honor these two beautiful creatures.

Gaston and Joseph . . . How do I explain this? One I was a very little girl, about three or four years old, my Grandmother’s breast were very large. I am sure they always were, but at that age I just began noticing. She was a very beautiful woman. I named her breasts Gaston and Josephine after a story someone had told me.  Hence, this is where the names of these pieces came from. Perhaps I should have kept that a secret, but hey, why?

Leo The Friendly Lion is my husband, Mark’s, favorite piece. I love his smile and he always makes me feel good when I look at him.

Good Time Charlie always makes me smile. There was a hotel in Vegas called The Tropicana and this hotel had beautiful live birds . . . everywhere.  The restaurant had toucans on the wallpaper. I wanted my own toucan and so I created Charlie. Periodically, Charlie has a grape in his mouth but sometimes the grape falls out in travel. . . or maybe he eats them. Humor me, but Charlie is happy . . . he always knows where his next grape is coming from.

Minky and Marmalade were my first two cats.  I loved them then and I love them still.

Mr. Eagle is for my husband who uses the Eagle for his symbol for his law firm. It was my idea to use the eagle’s head for marketing purposes. When he first began the firm we wanted to use the symbols of the eagle flying, landing and the a close-up of the head. This became very expensive and so I said “Oh just use the face, everyone has seen a bird fly.” One of my favorite photos is of my cat looking at the eagle (insert this photo). My precious and dear friend, Cindy, took many pictures of my cat, Merlin. This is the cat that you see in the photo. Merlin would see Cindy and the camera and he would immediately pose for her. Merlin was a ham as well as a cat!

The Panda – I love pandas. Always and forever. As a child, I had a stuffed panda . . . his name was Andy. This piece is named “Andy Panda”.

Pretty Bird began with the pin. I saw the pin, bought it and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. Sometimes a piece begins with a color or a pin or a song.

The Animal Summit On What To Do About The Problem Of Man . . . Well, what can I say. If the animals could get together and decide what to do about us, what do you think they would do? I look at the world and then I wonder what they must think or feel. This piece has all the animals coming together to decide what to do about man; I hope they make the right decision.

The Black Swan – Black swans have always fascinated me. They are unique, rare and legendary. Like the unicorn, they hold a fascination.

Tortoise Wedding – I did this piece because I wanted to have fun. I love the tortoises and the froggies and I love this piece.

Yorgy is special. I once had a neighbor who had two donkeys, Yuma and Georgie. They lived about a block away from us. Every day I would go and visit them. From a block away, they could see me and they would start to hee-haw excitedly. You see, I brought carrots for Yuma and marshmallows for Georgie. Marshmallows, you are thinking skeptically. Well, you see, Yuma was a young stud donkey. He was in the prime of life and he loved his carrots. He could chew and chew and chew. Georgie was a much older donkey. He was so old, his poor little head was stooped and he did not have all of his teeth or enough of them to chew well. . . hence the marshmallows. Yorgie the art piece is an honor of two of the sweetest animals I have ever known, Yuma and Georgie Meyerson.

The Goldbergs well what can I say, this piece speaks for itself. People are always trying to guess which one is me and which one is my husband Mark. It’s your choice.
